A Pinellas Park police officer was involved in a traffic crash on Friday evening, which shut down a part of Park Boulevard.

According to police, the on-duty officer was operating a fully marked police cruiser around 6:30 p.m. while traveling east on Park Blvd.

As the officer approached 46th Street N., a westbound vehicle made an abrupt left turn in front of the officer attempting to turn south on 46th Street. Both vehicles collided resulting in considerable damage to both vehicles.

The officer was taken to Northside Hospital for medical evaluation.

The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Bayfront Hospital for medical evaluation.

All eastbound lanes of Park Blvd at 46th Street were closed.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors in this crash.

The driver of the other vehicle will be issued a citation for violation of the officer’s right of way, police said.
