A Cocoa man died Monday afternoon after deputies said his motor home crashed into a utility pole in Davenport.

John F. Willis, 69, was driving a 2007 Fleetwood motor home north on U.S. 17/92 at 1:25 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he swerved left, deputies said.

The motor home crossed the turn lane onto Hart Road and traveled into the southbound lane. It then left the road, drove through a shallow ditch and hit a utility pole, investigators said.

First responders found Willis unresponsive behind the wheel. He was wearing his seat belt and he suffered no obvious injuries. He was taken to Heart of Florida Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said the initial investigation indicates Willis suffered some kind of medical episode.

Willis was the only person in the motor home.

No one else was injured in the crash.
