Pasco County school officials are reminding principals that religious holiday parties are not allowed.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the issue came up after a parent complained that his daughter was sent to the principal's office as her class had a Christmas party in December. The girl is Jewish.

Deputy superintendent Ray Gadd told the Times he's investigating the complaint. He said it opened the door for him to to remind school leaders about what's appropriate when it comes to holidays and religion.

If a teacher has a party, he told the newspaper, it should be short and not focused on a specific religion.
