A Spring Hill man is facing charges after deputies said he threatened a father and his son during a road rage incident.

Mark Cook, 39, was driving at the intersection of U.S. 92 and Branch Forbes Road at 2 p.m. Thursday when he thought his Chevy Malibu had been hit in the rear by a Chevy truck, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

That truck was driven by Jason Foster, 28, deputies said.

When Foster drove off, Cook followed him and blocked him at the dead end of Shepherd Road and Poultry Farm Lane, causing a minor crash, deputies said.

Cook got out of his car and approached Foster's truck while pointing a small black handgun and threatening Foster's life, deputies said. Cook then opened Foster's door and punched Foster which displaying the weapon, deputies said.

Foster's 5-year-old son was in the truck while this happened, deputies said. In addition, Cook's 2-year-old daughter was in his car at the time.

Foster was able to close the door and protect himself and his son until deputies arrived. The deputies who responded found that no traffic crash had taken place at the original scene, as Cook had claimed, the report said.

Cook is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, child neglect and armed burglary of a conveyance.
