A man wanted on a fugitive warrant out of Tennessee was arrested Thursday at Hillsborough State Park.

Deputies arrested Darrell Clay Johnston, 48, on charges of aggravated assault, possession of methamphetamine, manufacture of methamphetamine, fleeing to elude law enforcement and convicted felon in possession of ammunition.

Also arrested was Vanessa Jo Maghielse, 36, on charges of possession of methamphetamine and manufacture of methamphetamine.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies were asked to assist the Wayne County and Pinellas County sheriff's offices with apprehending Johnston. Johnston was wanted on an outstanding fugitive warrant issued for aggravated assault and fleeing to elude law enforcement

Deputies learned that Johnston was driving a silver Dodge Dakota truck in the area of Thonotosassa, and that he might be camping in the area. Deputies searched the local parks and eventually found the truck in Hillsborough State Park, near a hiking trail.

The deputies set up surveillance, and at 4:49 p.m. they arrested Johnston and Maghielse as they got into the truck.

Deputies said they searched the vehicle and found a mobile clandestine meth lab in the truck, along with ammunition. Deputies said they did not find any guns.

The investigation continues. More charges are forthcoming.
