Weather in the Bay area changed on Friday.

Winds have been strong, with gusts of nearly 40 mph. According to Bay News 9 Meteorologist Brian McClure, those winds are coming ahead of an approaching cold front.

Rain with some embedded thunderstorms will move through the area overnight into early Saturday. McClure said the Lightning Detector has picked up on some lightning over the Gulf, but that should weaken as the patch of rain moves over the Tampa Bay, turning into mainly rain with a few possible thunderstorms.

McClure said the rain should come to an end in the morning as the front passes through. Winds will likely be rather strong in the late morning and
early afternoon, with the possibility of even more gusts of up to 40 mph.

Beachgoers should beware.

"These strong onshore winds will cause hazardous boating conditions on Saturday and produce dangerous rip currents on the beaches," McClure said.

A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Saturday. Winds will be from the northwest at 20 to 30 knots.

The temperatures will reach their highs in the mid-60s before dropping into the 50s during the afternoon.

"It will feel quite chilly due to a strong northwest wind," McClure said.

Saturday night will be cold with lows in the 40s and 30s.

Temperatures will remain low Sunday morning, possibly reaching the mid-40s in the Bay area and the mid-30s in the northern counties.

Conditions are expected to be much milder Sunday night, just in time for another cold front set to hit the area on Monday.
