A pair of conjoined twins born in Jacksonville last month have a Bay area connection.

Carter and Conner were born on December 12, joined at the torso. The babies share a liver and small intestine. Despite being given no more than a 25 percent chance of survival during the birthing process, the two have been growing stronger ever since.

“They're miracles," said Jennifer Rowland, the boys grandmother who lives in St. Petersburg with her husband Patrick. "I mean, really. They weren't supposed to be here."

Carter and Conner have gone through several operations leading up to the one that will separate them. If they continue to grow stronger, that could happen within the next 6 months.

Rowland said it’s been tough on the family.

“But what gets your through? I'll tell you what gets you through: It's prayer and it's family and it's a bond," Jennifer said. "That's what gets you through.”

Carter and Conner recently suffered a minor setback when they caught a fever, but are doing much better now.
