The Hernando County Utilities Department is encouraging customers to conserve water with financial incentives.

Hernando County Utilities Department (HCUD) is offering two Water Conservation Incentive Programs now through September 15.

These programs are available only to HCUD customers. If you are interested in participating, review the following program descriptions and requirements. Call (352) 754-4705 if you have questions.

Low Flow Toilet Rebate Program

HCUD is offering up to a $200 ($100 per toilet) water bill credit for qualified customers who have their high-gallon per flush (gpf) toilet (toilets using 3.5 gpf or more) changed out with a new water-saving toilet using 1.6 gpf or less.

Program Requirements:

  1.  Your home must be older than 1994.
  2.  You must currently have a 3.5 gpf or higher toilet.
  3.  You must be a customer of HCUD.
  4.  You must use a participating plumber for purchase and installation of your new toilet(s).

Rain Sensor Rebate Program

HCUD is offering a $50 water bill credit for qualified customers who need a rain sensor. Outside watering accounts for at least half of household use. A properly working rain sensor automatically shuts off your sprinkler system when there has been adequate rainfall. It helps save money and conserves water.

Program Requirements: 

  1.  Your home and irrigation system must be older than 2005.
  2.  You must be using water provided by HCUD to irrigate.
  3.  You must use a participating irrigation contractor for   
      purchase and installation of the rain sensor.
