St. Petersburg Police are investigating the theft of 53 racquetball rackets from a school.

On the morning of January 27, at Melrose Elementary, 1752 13th Ave S., a school employee discovered someone had broken into two aluminum sheds on school property overnight.

The sheds are used to keep equipment for the physical education classes. Several boxes containing 53 racquetball rackets and an unknown number of tennis balls were stolen. Investigators estimate they are worth about $20 each.
