Two suspects are in custody in Tampa after an overnight shooting, car theft and pursuit through two counties.

According to Tampa police, the incident started with a stolen car and gunshots being fired in Lakeland, the car being spotted in Plant City and a police pursuit that ended at an apartment near the University of South Florida.

Police called a SWAT team to the complex near 46th Street and Citrus Circle, just south of Busch Boulevard.

The suspect, Antwan Gordon, was wanted for shooting at individuals and stealing a Chevy Malibu, authorities said.

There were no injuries in the shooting. The car was spotted in Plant City but sped off.

A short time later, Tampa police tried to stop the vehicle just north of Fletcher Avenue.

Gordon's cousin, 22-year-old Herbert Stubbins, jumped out of the car as Gordon kept driving. Police said Stubbins told them the location of the apartment was Gordon was heading and that Gordon's 14-year-old girlfriend was in the vehicle with him. Stubbins was taken into custody.

Police quickly locked down the area and found Gordon hiding in an apartment attic.

"Negotiators from the Tampa Police Department's hostage negotiation unit began speaking to Mr. Gordon," said TPD Lt. Mike Stout. "At which point he agreed to come out of the attic and surrender at that point."

The entire ordeal lasted about two hours.

Charges are pending against Gordon and Stubbins.

The 14-year-old girl was reported as missing in Plant City Thursday night. Police said she was a willing participant in the events but there is no word if she will face any juvenile charges.
