A federal crackdown dubbed “Operation Team Player” has netted more than $19 million in fake NFL merchandise across the country.

“We see counterfeit merchandise everywhere,” said Richie Flores, a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security. “We see it in big shopping centers, big malls. We see it in flea markets, we see it in mom and pop shops.”

Take for example this Seattle Seahawks Superbowl Championship t-shirt.  It stood out to agents, most likely because the game hadn’t even been played yet.

The feds recommend if you have any suspicions, you should go online and check legitimate websites for the correct logos and prices.

“Make sure it looks good and it’s something that makes sense,” Flores said. “If the price looks too good to be true, that’s probably what it is.”

So far, more than 50 people have been arrested in connection with the counterfeit merchandise.
