A Bradenton police officer was involved in a shooting on Thursday afternoon.

According to reports, staff at a local hospital called police around 3 p.m. stating that a man was harassing people at the hospital.

Officials said the man left the hospital and crashed into a Bradenton police officer as he was trying to leave.

The officer fired at the man, wounding him, and a chase ensued.

"As he is fleeing he hits her with his car," said Chief Michael Radzilowski, Bradenton Police. "Furing that time she was able to fire off some shots and hit him and his car."

During the chase, officials said at least seven vehicles were hit. All had minor damage.

Eventually the man crashed his car and the chase ended in the area of Cortez Rd. and 37th St. W.

"There was at least seven different accidents, and as he was fleeing the last accident, did baked his car and BPD made arrest," said Chief Radzilowski.

"All I saw was a gray streak come through and knew he hit me,"  said Mona Seamans, whose car was hit by the suspect.

"He could have really seriously hurt someone or killed somebody the way he was driving," said Charlie Smith, whose car was also hit.

Cortez Road has since reopened.

Both the officer and suspect are being treated at Blake Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Their names have not been released at this time.
