The Pasco County School District just named its outstanding senior for the county.

Each school in the county selected an outstanding student but officials eventually narrowed the selection down to one for the whole count. This year, 17-year-old Alex Walker was the recipient of that honor.

Walker looks like your ordinary senior, but he’s done a few things some of us may never do. For one, he has become a pilot at the age of 17. He has a 4.4 GPA and he is the captain of his varsity soccer and tennis teams.

In addition, he spends hundreds of hours volunteering as well as serving on multiple committees and other groups.

He’s a senior at the Pasco eSchool. He says going to school online has allowed him to do more.

“I’m able to go up to South Carolina and travel during the school weeks and complete my private pilots exam,” said Walker. “I’m able to do sports that most kids wouldn't be able to do if they weren’t doing Pasco eSchool because I’m able to build around that schedule and build around the flexibility that it offers me.”

Walker has three businesses on the side, including working as a referee and detailing boats and cars. His ultimate career goal is to fly jets for the military.

Walker has applied to four Florida universities but he really has his fingers crossed to get into the Air Force Academy.

The district says the award is earned based on academic record, service, leadership, and commitment to school and the community.
