The suspect in a shooting that left a man seriously wounded crashed into two patrol vehicles early Monday in Town 'N' Country, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
Around 2:15 a.m., deputies responded to the corner of W. Waters Avenue and Pinehurst drive to investigate a report of a man on a bike being shot.
They found a man with a gunshot wound to his upper body, and he was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, deputies said.
Deputies identified a suspect, but as they were trying to take him into custody, he fled in his vehicle and crashed into two patrol vehicles, causing severe damage to both, the sheriff's office said. The deputies were not injured.
Detectives believe the cause of this incident may be drug related. No identities have been released.
The intersection was closed until around 6:30 a.m.
