A Bradenton man riding a scooter died Sunday night after being struck from behind by a sport utility vehicle on State Road 70, authorities say.

Lance Hadden, 41, was riding a scooter east on State Road 70 near the I-75 interchange around 7:20 p.m. when a Jeep Liberty changed lanes behind him and struck the scooter, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Hadden, thrown from the scooter, was transported to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, where he later died.

The driver of the Jeep, 18-year-old Zacchaeus Wiedeman, was cited for careless driving, the FHP said.
