It’s a corn maze like no other.

Sure, it has the standard twists and turns of what is expected of a corn maze. The five-acre pattern follows a very specific pattern. However, that’s only truly seen from the sky.

From high above the Harvestmoon Farm, the maze’s design takes shape, you can see that the twists and turns spell out TAMPA BAY LIGHTNING and, of course, GO BOLTS.

In the center lies the signature Lightning logo of the Bolt piercing through the circle.

It’s Harvestmoon’s third year of corn mazes, and the owners wanted to do something different.

“Other farms up north have done sports teams and we thought what a great idea,” said Christina Falakos, who owns the farm with her husband, Demetri.

The Falakoses got the idea to do a Tampa Bay Lightning-themed maze during the team’s push for the Stanley Cup. They wanted to celebrate the team and get folks excited for the upcoming season.

The family enlisted the help of a national corn field maze carving company. They planted the seeds in July, and once the sprouts grew to be about six inches, the company helped the couple map out and design their plan.

“It’s basically graphed out onto graph paper, and they basically turn the crop into a big graph paper, and that’s how they go through and cut it,” Christina Falakos said.

The maze opened Saturday, and helping to celebrate the occasion were ThunderBug, the Lightning's mascot, and the Lightning Girls.

It can be tricky. Depending on corn maze skill level, and sense of direction, it could take someone from 20 minutes to an hour to solve the maze.

But don’t worry – those who get lost are in good company.

“Some people get lost,” she said. “Even myself!”

Kenny Ravitz, 12, got a little turned around while navigating the course with his family.

“It was pretty tough,” Ravitz said. “We got lost, like, two times.”

For those who can’t find their way out, there are guides peppered throughout the course to help people find their way out.

The farm also has a petting zoo, slides, food and other fun things for kids and adults. The event will take place every weekend through November from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Last entry tickets will be sold at 4 p.m.
