A motorcyclist was killed Saturday night in Brandon in a crash in involving a driver who fled the scene, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Scott Randall Caput, 50, of Brandon was riding a Honda VTX 1800 east on State Road 60 near Parsons Avenue around 8:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet Equinox pulled out from the Advanced Auto Parts store parking lot, troopers said.
Caput swerved to avoid the sport utility vehicle, but he lost control of the motorcycle and was ejected as it overturned. He was taken to Brandon Regional Hospital, where he later died, troopers said.
The SUV, which never made contact with the motorcycle, failed to stop and continued on State Road 60, according to the FHP.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the FHP at 813-631-4020.
