A Zephyrhills man died Monday morning when he lost control of his car while attempting to pass other vehicles on U.S. 98.

The crash happened at 10:35 a.m. on U.S. 98, just south of Jamar Road, in Dade City.

Albert Goguen, 73, was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Corvette south on U.S. 98 behind two other vehicles, one of which overtook and passed the other.

Troopers said that while the first two vehicles were side-by-side, Goguen drove onto the east shoulder so he could pass both vehicles.

After he passed the vehicles, he drove back onto the road and lost control of the Corvette, troopers said. The Corvette traveled across the road and onto the west shoulder, where it crashed into a tree.

Goguen died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.

No charges will be filed in the crash, officials said.
