Road construction is underway in downtown Inverness, causing headaches for many drivers.

Resident Debra McFarland plans to find a way to avoid all the work, but basically she is not too worried about it.

"All towns have the same issues at one time or another," McFarland said. "It will be good when it is said and done, like anything."

The plan is to resurface State Road 44 between Highland Boulevard and Cherry Avenue. Before that can happen, drainage improvements need to be made.

With a project like this, there are sure to be the same headaches for drivers like traffic, confusion about where to turn and more. CJ Dixon, the owner of ERA American Realty right downtown, is staying positive.

"Maybe when there is a traffic backup they will see our sign for a little longer and decide to put their house on the market with us," he said.

State transportation officials say all the work should wrap up by the summer of 2016.

"It's not something we can't deal with," McFarland said.

State transportation officials say the resurfacing work will be done at night. The cost of the project is about $1.8 million.
