The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of a 2-month-old boy from North Port and is asking the public for information on his parents’ activities before they left the state.

Chance Walsh has not been seen since Sept. 9. His parents, Kristen Bury and Joseph Walsh, have been charged with child neglect with great bodily harm.

According to the affidavit, Bury’s mother contacted the Sarasota Sheriff’s Office on Oct. 4th after attempts by her and other family members to check on Chance were unsuccessful.

According to the report, the parents gave conflicting stories to family members as to what happened to their son, including he died in a car crash and that they had given him to a stranger at a hotel in Georgia.

Law enforcement verified the couple was involved in a car crash in Hardeeville, South Carolina on Oct. 2 but that no baby was present at the crash scene nor was there a car seat present or room in the vehicle for one.

Officials also confirmed the couple had stayed at an Augusta, Georgia motel on Sept. 28 and 29 but that surveillance images from the motel showed the couple arrived alone.

A woman at the hotel told officials Bury attempted to sell her various baby items because, according to the witness, Bury said her baby had died three weeks earlier.

A search of the couple’s home on Orduna Drive revealed small amounts of blood located on the bed pillows, comforter and mattress, as well as a blood spatter pattern high on the walls, door, mirror and light fixture in the bathroom, according to the affidavit.

Neighbors said they saw a lot of law enforcement activity at the house.

"It was like a CSI scene here on Sunday," said Jeanine Largent who lives across the street.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation, as is the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Walsh and Bury are each being held on $150,000 bond in Jasper County, SC, awaiting extradition to the Sarasota County Jail.

"I can't say what I think of it because it's so upsetting," said Largent. "Why anybody would hurt a baby, if that's what they did with him. I just don't understand."
