The traffic on Interstate 75 at State Road 50 in Brooksville remains slow, but it moving better than it did Tuesday.

One lane of northbound I-75 and one lane of westbound State Road 50 have been reopened. Transportation officials say those lanes will be the only ones open while repairs are made.

The lanes were closed Tuesday afternoon after a flatbed tractor trailer carrying a backhoe hit the I-75 overpass.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, as the trailer went under the overpass, the backhoe slammed into the support beams of State Road 50, knocking concrete onto the roadway below.

Some of the debris hit a 2010 Honda, causing minor damage to the car. Neither driver was injured in the crash. Both the interstate and State Road 50 had to be closed immediately.

The crash, which happened just before 4:30 p.m., caused massive backups and delays on the interstate. One northbound lane of I-75 was reopened shortly after 9 p.m.

The state Department of Transportation said repair work should be done in less than a week.
