Authorities have arrested the daughter-in-law of a couple found murdered in a Riverview home Thursday morning.

Marisol Best, 30, of Riverview was charged Friday with first-degree murder in the deaths of Virgil Edgar Best, 70, and Shirley Best, 69, who were shot to death in their home on the 10700 block of Dixon Drive.

Detectives say Robert Best, the couple's son, and Marisol arrived at the home Thursday morning to pray about a court appearance Robert was supposed to make that day in Polk County. They found the older couple shot dead.

An investigation ensued, and detectives say they learned that Marisol had gone to the home Wednesday and "became angry with the victims because they were negative about Robert's upcoming court appearance." Detectives say Marisol shot both victims before leaving the home.

Marisol Best has also been charged with violation of parole.

Friends are remembering Virgil and Shirley Best as a "loving couple" who were trying to help their son and daughter-in-law through a difficult time.

The Bests attended First Baptist Church of Gibsonton.

"Virgil and Shirley sat in the very back row and we always say the good Baptists sit in the back," church deacon Craig Smith said. "They were the best."

Smith said it's especially hard because the couple was just getting ready to start the next chapter in their lives.

"They had this dream that soon they would be able to retire and travel and sell their place and go on and pursue what they wanted to do in life," he said.

Smith said he's working through the loss by thinking about the good times.

"I did the count on Sunday morning's and he would always stick that big old leg out and try to trip me. God bless him," he laughed. "And Shirley would come out for choir with a  big smile on her face and a big hug for everyone in the congregation."
