Speech and language pathologist Andrea Clark stays busy at her office for "TherHappy Therapy Services" in Hudson.

The day that Everyday Hero host Bill Murphy met her, she was working with a beautiful child named Bailey.

“Bailey is a 2 1/2-year-old little girl with autism and, specifically, sensory processing disorder,” Clark said.

Bailey is especially sensitive about anything touching her. That’s where Summer, a horse at Clark’s TherHappy location, comes in. The horse and child combination is called hippotherapy, which includes physical, occupational and speech-language therapy.

“What the horse provides for the children is rhythm, synchrony and balance. It helps their world to stop spinning Mac 50 backwards, and it helps just to regulate and organize their little world,” Clark said.

Clark works in these "little worlds" for children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delay and other challenges.

For Bailey, Summer is helping her take big steps.

And she’s not the only one. Summer is also helping Christian, a child with Down syndrome.

It was a mom who told Murphy about Clark and the many hours and extra expenses she assumes to bring these horses and children together.

But as for being called a hero, Clark politely declines.

“Those moms are the heroes," Clark said. "The children are the heroes. They help us see the world in totally different ways. And, of course, the horses are heroes. They’re the real healers here."
