A group of Hernando County students is trying to raise enough money to take advantage of an opportunity of a lifetime.

The award-winning Weeki Wachee High School Chorus makes musical magic, and their talent is being recognized in a big way: They have been invited to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York City next spring.

Many of the kids have never been to the Big Apple. Actually, a lot of them have never been on an airplane.

"No, I have not been to New York, and I am absolutely stoked for this field trip," chorus member Nacole Piccinich said.

Morgan Burburan, the school's chorus director, said they need to raise almost $138,000 for all 48 kids to go.

When the kids aren't singing, they're working overtime to come up with donations. So far, they have about $26,000, but they have a long way to go and are hoping for more community support.

"Oh yeah, we're learning to budget, a lot," said chorus member Jenna Kulbok.
