Patience is wearing thin now that traffic from a busy thoroughfare has been routed through a Spring Hill neighborhood

The residents along Canfield Drive in Spring Hill are not used to a lot of traffic. Car after car, their quiet side street is not so quiet anymore.

"I'm very, very upset with it," resident Carmen Ramos said. "You can't get out of your driveway."

"As soon as rush hour hits it is about 20 times worse," said Michael Davidson, who also lives along Canfield Drive.

Part of northbound Mariner Boulevard has been shut down, thanks to a depression that appeared earlier this month. County officials say about 150 feet of Mariner needs to be removed and replaced.

As a result, all the traffic is being detoured along three side streets, including Canfield Drive.

It has been just about two weeks, and so far no repair work has started. Residents are losing their patience and want to know why it is taking so long.

"Hurry it up," Davidson said. "Route the traffic down the middle of Mariner. Turn Mariner into one lane, anything except come through a neighborhood."

County officials say they are waiting on an engineering report, so at this point it is unclear when work will begin and end. They hope to pick a contractor next week.

"As soon as the sun goes down and there is no law enforcement around, people just speed through here," Davidson said.

So for now, this once-quiet neighborhood won't be quiet again for a while.

The sheriff's office reports they have been in the area keeping an eye on things.
