City workers rescued a kitten from a storm drain Thursday morning.

Public works crewmen noticed a storm drain on the corner of Ridge Road and Formel Avenue wasn’t working properly. When they got closer to see what was wrong, they heard a kitten purring, Assistant City Manager Jocilyn Martinez said.

"They were able to save it," Martinez said.

It took four Port Richey Public Works crewmen -- Pat Stewart, Chris Hughes, Michael Parisi, and Rick Handshomaker -- to rescue the kitten.

Handshomaker took the kitten home and will raise it with his family.
