Police on Saturday morning arrested a woman they say was driving drunk and traveling the wrong way on a Seffner street.

Frances Cassandra Claridge, 45, of Brandon was charged with driving under the influence after her blood alcohol concentration registered at .278, which is more than three times the level at which Florida law presumes impairment.

According to Tampa police, a patrol lieutenant was traveling north on Lakewood Drive south of E. Broadway Avenue around 5:20 a.m. when she saw a Mercedes-Benz turn onto Lakewood Drive and head north in the southbound lane.

The Mercedes stopped at a traffic signal just north of the railroad tracks at E. Broadway Avenue, but after the light turned green, the vehicle continued north in the southbound lane.

The officer stopped the driver and noted she had alcohol on her breath and "gave conflicting stories about where she was going and was uncertain about the time and day," police said.

Claridge was arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.
