A piece of Citrus County history has been brought back to life.

After basically being rebuilt, the historic Valerie Theatre is ready to raise the curtain and get back to the business of entertainment.

The theater was built back in the 20's and was the place to go for decades, but closed down in 1987. Now the Valerie has been given a second chance.

"To have this venue that survived and has been brought back to life is just amazing," Alan Forino, the theatre's cultural director, said. "This building was so beyond repair that basically the only things left are the two outside, brick walls."

On December 5, a new chapter will begin at the Valerie. The theater will host its first official show since the doors reopened and the public can't wait. Tickets to the Christmas show were sold out in three days.

"At this particular point every single ticket that I had available is sold," Forino said.

Forino says down the line, the plan is to have something going on at the Valerie every weekend.

"Plays, lecture series, art shows," he said. "You name it we will pretty much do it because the full name is the Valerie Theatre Cultural Center."

So after years of sitting empty, the Valerie is now ready to entertain once again.
