The family of an 11-year-old Town 'N Country boy who was killed in a hit-and-run crash earlier this month is asking the public for help locating the driver.

"My biggest fear is that this individual would repeat this situation," said Breanne Brooks, who is the aunt of Alex Torres. "Knowing that this person who committed this crime is still in our community free to do it again. That's the major concern and justice for Alex."

Torres was struck while walking his bicycle across a bridge on Hillsborough Avenue at 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 7, according to police. On Saturday, detectives released surveillance video of a 2005 or 2006 Nissan Altima that's metallic in color. Now they are searching for that vehicle.

"I'm asking for the public's help to please come forward with any clues, no matter how small they may be," Brooks said. "To help find the person responsible for the hit-and-run that killed my nephew."

Brooks said it was out of character for her nephew to be out so late and believes he was scared to go home because he got into some minor trouble earlier that day at Davis Elementary School.

"It was a homework assignment that did not get turned in on time, which we did find completed at home," she said. "He was gone for 12 hours and we had no idea. This is completely out of his nature. He went against his fear of the dark. There's a million questions that are not going to be answered."

Brooks said the holidays are going to be tough without Alex and knowing the driver who killed him is still on the loose.

"It's a very dark empty space to be in without Alex here," she said. "Thanksgiving was one of Alex's favorite holidays and not having him here to celebrate with us makes it difficult to celebrate."
