The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has released surveillance images of a man they say fired a gun inside of the Westfield Citrus Park mall Monday night.

According to reports, the suspect was at a Meher Jewelers kiosk inside the mall just before 7 p.m. when he stole a piece of jewelry and ran away. An employee was chasing the suspect through the mall when the man turned and fired at the employee.

No one was hit by the gunfire.

The employee chased the suspect down in the parking lot and after a struggle retrieved the jewelry. The suspect escaped in a white 2010 or later Hyundai Elantra with white tinted windows.

Deputies described the suspect as a white male about 20 to 25 years old, 6-foot-3 with a medium build, brown hair and thick prescription glasses. The suspect was wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with green sleeves, white shorts and a camouflage Detroit Red Wings cap at the time of the robbery and shooting.

Officials said the suspect could face attempted murder charges.

Deputies quickly responded to the mall and established there was not an active shooter and assisted mall security in restoring order.

Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay (1-800-873-8477 or crimestopperstb.com) is offering a reward for anyone with information on this case that leads to an arrest.
