The Hernando County Sheriff's Office Emergency Management Section is again looking for volunteers over 18 who are interested in joining its Community Emergency Response Team.

CERT volunteers receive special training that enhances their ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a disaster situation. Team members provide vital services in the absence of emergency responders, whose arrival may be delayed because of the severity of the situation.

The next training class will begin on Wednesday, Jan. 13.  Classes will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. every Wednesday night until February 24, 2016 in the Emergency Operations Center, 18900 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville, 34601.

Previous emergency experience is not required, and the training, materials and equipment are provided for free. CERT members must pass a background check, including fingerprints.

For information, call 352-754-4083. Applications can be found at www.hernandosheriff.org/em via the ERT link. All applications must be submitted to the Community Relations Specialist, Michael Terry, by Friday, Jan. 8.
