Savvy shoppers are ready to find this year’s hottest deals, even if that means shopping on Thanksgiving Day.

But some stores are saying no and trading the shopping frenzy for family time.

“We just really had a strong belief that it was very important for our customers and our associates to be able to enjoy Thanksgiving with their family and friends and not have to worry about the stress of going to find the best deals out there,” said Carina Hankamer, a district manager for GameStop.

GameStop is one of more than a dozen retailers that is closed for Thanksgiving Day.

It’s a move shopper Stephen Dorgan stands behind.

"I think it’s a great policy," he said. "It lets them be with their families and enjoy their time, what the holiday is supposed to be, not about commercialism and spending your money."

TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods are also closed. The stores have been promoting a bring back the holidays campaign, airing commercials about family coming first.

“We really felt it was important for our associates and also our customers to be with their friends and family on Thanksgiving," said Brittany Farrell, a spokesperson for the TJX Companies, which operates TJ Maxx, Marshalls and Homegoods.
