Deputies over the weekend arrested a woman they say attacked and carjacked a taxi cab driver.

According to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, Laurie Valdez-Wasmiller, 49, called Spring Hill Taxi last Friday night requesting a ride. When driver John Motzer Jr. arrived, Valdez-Wasmiller struck him in the face, bit him in the elbow and arms and pulled his lip and mouth with her hand.

Valdez-Wasmiller then commandeered Motzer's 2007 Ford Crown Victoria cab and fled the area, driving through a side-yard chain link fence and damaging both the fence and the car, according to her arrest report.

She fled on foot, but a K-9 unit was able to track her to the front door of her home, deputies said.

Although no arrest was made at that time, an investigating deputy found a pair of women's eye glasses, a gold bracelet and a small jewelry box on the driver's side of the cab, the report said.

Saturday, the sheriff's office received a call that Valdez-Wasmiller was lying in the road near her home, wearing a black dress like the one she was said to be wearing at the time of the carjacking. She complained of chest pains to Hernando County Fire Rescue personnel and was taken to Bayfront Health Spring Hill for treatment.

The investigating deputy said he interviewed Valez-Wasmiller at the hospital and that she admitted the items found in the cab belonged to her. She also said, "I know I did something bad," according to the report.

Valdez-Wasmiller is charged with carjacking, battery and criminal mischief. She was being held Monday under the care of the detention staff until being medically cleared by the hospital.
