Deputies say two small children were found living in a Bradenton house with "deplorable" conditions.

The children's parents, grandmother and great-grandmother are now all facing child neglect charges in connection with the case.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office, civil deputies were serving an eviction at the house, located at 1526 60th Ave. Dr. E, Thursday morning when they saw the house's condition.

"As soon as you got there you knew that it was bad," said Dave Bristow, a spokesman for the sheriff's office."The smell -- everything about the residence. The children needed to be removed right away. No questions asked."

Patrol deputies responded to the scene and went into the house, where they said they found feces on the floor, decomposing food lying around, garbage strewn about and a "stench that is indescribable."

Deputies said the children — an 8-month-old child and a 20-month-old child — were filthy and clad in diapers that were full of urine and feces.

The adult relatives were living inside the house with the children in those conditions, deputies said.

"Nobody should live in conditions like this but obviously not little children," said Bristow.

Deputies say they found a small homeless camp in the backyard, where several people were living in tents. They also say they found an open sewer drain flowing into the yard near the site of the tents.

Adam Spry was living behind the family’s home in a makeshift shelter with a few more men.

He says the children’s father took good care of them and this was a one-time thing.

"I’m not really surprised at that moment but social services has come by once a month to check on these children, and it’s been fine, and there were no problems before," Spry said. "It just happened to be a bad moment for the family when they stopped by there."

One of the men living at this home claims all of this mess was just moved here because the family found out they were being evicted.

The adult relatives of the children — identified as mother Theresa Miller, 19; father Keith Davis, 47; grandmother Linda A. Miller, 40; and great-grandmother Linda E. Miller, 67 — were taken into custody.

The children were removed from the home by Department of Children and Families investigators.
