One of the two teens injured during a drive-by shooting Saturday night in St. Petersburg has died.
Jaquez Jackson, 17, died at the hospital after he was shot in the area of 4100 block of Third Avenue S shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Another teenager, whose identity has not been released, has been treated and released from the hospital. Investigators said they believe the teenagers were passengers in a vehicle when another car pulled next to them and shots were fired.
Jackson is the seventh young male to die by gunfire in St. Petersburg since Nov. 10. All of the victims have been in their late teens or early 20s.
His father, Darrell Walker, said he was already concerned about the violence that has recently happened in St. Petersburg and they were planning to do something about it.
"We were planning on moving out of the neighborhood, so my son could could continue his education," he said. "He was an eleventh grader. One more year to go. Then he can go onto bigger and brighter things, but now, he won't be able to do that."
Walker said he hopes his son's killer is caught, and that the violence that has recently gripped St. Petersburg comes to an end.
"I don't know what the problem is, but we need to stop it," he said. "Everybody's life matters. I don't care if you're black, white, blue, green. Everybody's life matters."
Police say the car they were in at the time of the shooting has been recovered.
The identities of the suspect and a possible motive are still under investigation.
