Here’s what you need to know about the Bay area’s weather today and into the new year:

  • Another day of record heat in tampa
  • Partly cloudy, warm night with few showers possible

Today’s high at Tampa was 84 at 3 p.m.  This ties the record high for the date last set in 1990.  This is the seventh day in a row we have broken or tied the record high temperature.  The record high tomorrow is 83 set in 2006.

It will be a partly cloudy and warm night with a few showers possible.  Some fog around late.

We end the year with the same above normal temperatures we’ve had most days since late October.  Partly sunny tomorrow with a slight chance of showers.  Highs back to near the records of 83 for December 31.

Chances start as we enter 2016.  A cool front arrives on New Year’s Day with clouds and a slight chance of rain.  Winds will shift and although the high is listed as 80 for Friday it will begin to feel cooler by evening.

Saturday will be much cooler with clouds and highs holding in the 60s.  Clouds will continue to thicken as an upper level disturbance approaches from the west.

Sunday will be an overcast and rainy day with chilly temperatures, especially compared to our recent warm weather.  Rainfall amounts shouldn’t be heavy.

The upper level disturbance will exit quickly as we get to Monday, with cool temperatures continuing into the first half of next week.  Maybe some more rain by Wednesday.

Record high temperatures today:

Tampa 84 in 1990
St. Petersburg 83 in 1990
Bradenton 86 in 1990
St. Leo 87 in 1990
Brooksville 86 in 1984
Inverness 84 in 2014
Lakeland 83 in 2007
