A would-be bank robber's demand note led officers to arrest him at his mother's house Thursday, Tampa police say.

According to Tampa police, Danae Diaz, 50, walked into the SunTrust Bank on Himes Avenue at 1 p.m. and passed a note to a bank employee demanding $50,000.

The teller refused to give him money, and Diaz fled from the bank, police said.

Tampa police and FBI agents responded to the scene and found the demand note, crumpled up in the bank parking lot. Police said the demand was written on a SunTrust deposit slip, and inside that note was a second note written on a PNC Bank deposit slip.

Along with the second note was a pay stub with Diaz's name on it, police said.

Police found Diaz at his mother's home, along with the suspect vehicle. Police say they found the blue hooded sweatshirt Diaz was wearing during the attempted robbery inside the vehicle.

Diaz, who is a recent transplant from Miami, was taken into custody.
