Denise Baker is putting the finishing touches on her new business. She'll officially open De' Baker Brazilian Boutique in Tampa on Tuesday.

"My store is kind of sexy and sophisticated at the same time," Baker explained. "I don't know how it's going to be. I'm excited to see how people are going to react."

With her unique Brazilian clothes line, Baker is upbeat about the future of her business.

She's not alone. The 2015 Bank of America Small Business Report shows optimism is high among small business owners all over the country.

The report found:

  • 72% of small business owners surveyed expected their revenue to increase.
  • 67% of small business owners planned to hire more employees over the next year.
  • 62% expressed optimism for their local economies.
  • 56% expressed optimism for the national economy.

That's not a surprise to Bob McDonaugh, the city of Tampa's administrator of economic opportunity.

"People sat on the sidelines, wondering if this was really an uptick in the economy, if it was going to last," McDonaugh said. "Now, we're into four or five in the recovery, and I think people are comfortable enough and have seen enough successes along the way."

But even with all the optimism, shop owners like Baker know how tough business can be. Baker has watched other shops close down.

The key to success in this economy, Baker said, is being creative. That's something she's banking on when she opens the doors to De' Baker Brazilian Boutique next week.
