Staff, patients and administrators from Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa will be in Tallahassee later today to rally lawmakers.

Today is the 10th annual Moffitt Day at the Capitol. About 80 Moffitt advocates are making the trip.

In Florida, cancer is the leading cause of death, just edging out heart disease.

The group will be talking with lawmakers about Moffitt's cancer fighting treatments and continued support from Tallahassee for the center.

At least one cancer survivor making the trip to Tallahassee today says she would not be alive if not for the groundbreaking work being done at Moffitt.

"Anyone in my condition, you need to have that hope and someone that’s going to give you that," said Marjorie Lovelace, who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2013. "Moffitt has certainly done that for me and my family."

Now, almost three years into her treatment, Lovelace's tumor is not measurable and she says she feels as if she's been given a second lease on life.

"They’ve been my lifesaver," Lovelace said. "And without Moffitt, I’m not sure I would be here right now, doing this interview, because of everything they’ve done for me."
