A new community center and storm shelter is being constructed in Polk City.

The 5,000-square-foot center will be located on Broadway Boulevard SE, across the street from city hall.

The building will be able to withstand winds up to 170 miles per hour with accommodations for up to 237 people.

The goal is to have the building completed in 90 days, weather permitting.

City officials said area rancher Don Bronson is paying for the facility. The city will be responsible for the building's maintenance.
