A 20-year-old man is facing charges after investigators said he set fire to a home with four people inside.

Firefighters responded to a duplex-style apartment home in Palmetto on Feb. 21. Investigators determined the fire was deliberately set, and the Manatee County Sheriff's Office issued an alert for the suspect, who was identified by a witness.

The suspect, later identified as Michael Lynn Haynes, was tracked to Bradenton Beach, where he was arrested by police.

Two women, a man and a 2-year-old child were in the home at the time. Investigators said Haynes admitted that his intention was to "burn them out like roaches."

Haynes was booked into the Manatee County Jail on charges of arson of an occupied building, possession of cannabis and criminal mischief. If convicted of arson, he could face up to 15 years in prison.
