Detectives say a one-month-old baby was accidentally smothered by her mother at their home on Passage Way in Seminole.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Nafisa Doctor Gibbons, 35, said she fell asleep at 6:30 a.m. Thursday after bringing her crying daughter Chloe to bed with her.

But when she woke up two hours later, the child was unresponsive. The mother and grandmother administered CPR before paramedics transported the child to Largo Medical Center. The baby was later transferred by air to All Children's Hospital.

The infant died Sunday at All Children's Hospital after being taken off life support. The Medical Examiner's Office will make a final determination of cause and manner of death, although initial indication is accidental asphyxiation.

Deputies found no evidence of child abuse and said drugs didn't appear to play a role in the death even though the mother has a history of abusing drugs.
