More college scholarships are now available for Hernando County seniors with a history of good grades and volunteer hours.

The Hernando County Sheriff's Office's Youth Education Services (Y.E.S.) will fund three $1,000 awards, which will be known as the Richard Buckingham Community Service Scholarships.

The scholarships will be awarded to three students who have met the following criteria:

  • Volunteered a considerable number of hours with an organization in Hernando County;
  • Achieved at least 2.0 GPA;
  • Plan to enroll as a full-time student in an accredited college, university or trade school.

Applications are available at high school guidance offices and the Hernando County Sheriff's Office at 352-754-6830 ext. 53660. A printable registration form is also available at hernandosheriff.org.

All applications must be received at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office, located at 18900 Cortez Boulevard, by 5 p.m. on March 31.

Winners will be notified by mail and requested to attend an awards ceremony on May 18 at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
