The students at Roland Park K-8 Magnet School are always focused on international studies and how they can make a difference in other countries.

“Everyone has always told me oh you can try to make a change but it’s not going to do anything because you’re just a kid," said fifth grade student Alex Fleischmann.

But Alex and the other fifth grade students are making a big difference in a number of lives.

"It really makes me feel like a better person because I know that I’ve made a difference in our society and throughout the world," said fifth grade student Luke Hersey.

The students raised $600 as a part of their IB in Action exhibition project. The students were able to provide two low-cost prosthetic legs to men in Bangladesh and the Dominican Republic. It’s all thanks to the help of the nonprofit Limbs International.

“These kids get to see that for $300, less than the cost of the cell phone they're carrying around, can actually change someone's life," said Limbs International Executive Director Trevor Bergman.

“There are a lot of people who don’t have limbs and helping them is a really big deal," said student Varsha Kotamreddy.

“It just makes me feel really good to just know that I’m helping someone," said student Molly Keith.

The students are already working on a project to help build freshwater wells in Sudan.
