Today will be breezy and a little on the chilly side, but a warming trend will begin over the weekend.

Temperatures early Friday were in mid 50s near Tampa bay and upper 40s to low 50s in the north counties, or 10 to almost 20 degrees lower than they were Thursday morning. They'll stay below normal today, topping out in the mid 60s.

"When you look at the satellite images, we see a cold front that came through our area that's now in the southern half of Florida," Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez said. "But there is still a lot of cloud cover that is going to come across the area. So we're going to call it mostly cloudy today."

There's a 20 percent chance of showers and some drizzle associated with the cloud cover, Marquez said.

"Tomorrow morning, we expect a few showers early," she said. "By the afternoon, some scattered showers will be in Tampa Bay, and the rain chance will be a little higher in our northern areas. I do expect to see mostly cloudy skies for the next few days, although we will get peaks of sunshine from time to time."

Conditions will improve on Sunday, when the afternoon temperatures will climb back to the upper 70s. Highs will be in the low 80s Monday through Wednesday, and there's no rain in the forecast for those days. Another cold front is due Thursday.

"The warming trend will begin tomorrow," Marquez said. "You'll really notice a difference on Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will get a little above average. But for now, we have a cool northeast wind."
