An Apollo Beach man is using his hobby to help him through life's challenges.
Charles Kratz makes and sells fiberglass lighthouses. He said the made-to-order artwork helps him get his mind off the pain he endures from his illnesses and disability.
"I just don't think about it," Kratz said.
Kratz lost his feet in an accident. He has also battled back injuries and throat cancer.
"I just live life," Kratz said. "I live it. I just live life and I do what I can to the best of my ability."
Kratz's artwork started out as a hobby, but has turned into a business.
He has created 120 lighthouses. Some of those towers adorn his Apollo Beach neighborhood.
"It really is a work of art," said neighbor Gary Garbleman, who purchased a lighthouse mailbox.
