Tampa man dies after being hit by car in Brooksville

A 55-year-old Tampa man died after being struck by a car Tuesday night while crossing Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville, authorities said.

The man, whose identity has not been released, was crossing Cortez (State Road 50) at Winter Street around 10:50 p.m. when he stepped into the path of 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. He was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he later died, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Troopers said the pedestrian was struck just outside of the crosswalk after starting out inside of it.

The driver of the Volkswagen, 59-year-old Donna Jean Taylor of Brooksville, was not injured or charged.
