A 68-year-old Lake Wales woman was critically injured early Monday when she ran a red light at Hunt Brothers Road and State Road 60 and crashed into a tractor-trailer, police said.

Polly Swindel was driving a 2004 Suzuki Aerio north on Hunt Brothers Road around 6 a.m. when she failed to stop for a red light at S.R. 60. The Suzuki hit the side the tractor-trailer, causing major damage to the car and damage to the trailer, according to Lake Wales police.

The semi entered the intersection eastbound on S.R. 60 with a green light, but kept going after the crash, police said. The cab and trailer are described only as white.

Swindel was transported to Lakeland regional Medical Center, where she was in critical but stable condition Monday afternoon.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to contact Officer David Hernandez at 863-678-4223, ext. 580, or Heartland Crime Stoppers at 800-226-8477.
