Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who struck and killed a 25-year-old driver in the Woodlawn Terrace section of Tampa overnight.

Herbert M. James, of Tampa, was turning south onto 40th Street from Deleuil Avenue when his vehicle was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro that was rented out of Orlando. The driver of the Camaro fled on foot, police said.

James was not wearing a seatbelt and died, police said. He was a father of two children and also had several siblings.

"We are just lost," said Cayla James, one of Herbert James' sisters. "He was a very enjoyable person, and that's why I don't know why somebody would just leave him like that."

Police said the suspect was also injured in the crash. The Camaro was left behind at the crash scene.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Tampa police or Crime Stoppers at 800-423-TIPS (8477).
