For the past two years things have been steadily changing in New Port Richey, and some would say it’s been for the best.

New Port Richey Business Owner Lou Partazana has been noticing those recent changes.

“I think there has been an improvement,” said Partazana.

The improvements pertain to both the look and the feel of the city. Since 2013, the City of New Port Richey has been passing ordinances to crack down on crime and deteriorating properties.

These ordinances have targeted prostitution, illegal dumping, blighted homes, and deteriorating rental and nuisance properties. The city of New Port Richey believes these ordinances are helping to revitalize the city.

"The city needed to establish its own identity, stronger and more positive one than what it currently exits," said New Port Richey City Manager Debbie Manns.

Currently, the city is in the process of drafting yet another ordinance that would deal with look of the city. The ordinance will place more stringent time frames for builders with permits.

The latest city improvements have had a positive effect on Partazana’s business. He is now thinking about expanding his downtown business.

"Eventually, I will probably look into buying a commercial property down here," he said. "I think the future is bright in New Port Richey."
